How Xiarider Builds a Safer Electric Dirt Motorcycle: UL 2272, Battery Certification & Insurance

Safety isn't a feature. It's the foundation.

For Xiarider, product safety has never been a checkbox added after the design is done. It is something we build continuously — from the battery cell to the complete vehicle, to the moment the motorcycle reaches your garage. As we expand across North America, we are investing in the things most buyers never think to ask about until it matters: third-party certification, core-component management, and risk protection.

This pillar article maps the entire Xiarider Safety Standard and links to three deep-dive guides in the series. Here is the system in one view:

  • Battery system: 52V lithium-ion battery (K2: 27Ah / K5: 22.5Ah), certified to ANSI/CAN/UL/ULC 2271 — evaluated for over-temperature protection during charge and discharge, and short-circuit protection.
  • Whole vehicle: K2 and K5 electric dirt motorcycles hold a Certificate of Compliance issued by SGS North America, meeting ANSI/CAN/UL 2272:2026 — effective August 21, 2026.
  • Market protection: Commercial general liability insurance covering our electric off-road motorcycles, with worldwide jurisdiction including the U.S. and Canada — up to $1,000,000 per occurrence / $1,500,000 aggregate.
  • Original design: Design patents granted across the K2 and K5 electric motorcycle product lines.

01 · From the core: battery safety first

The battery is the single most important system on any electric off-road motorcycle. Ours is certified to UL 2271, the safety standard for batteries used in light electric vehicle applications. But certification is the floor, not the ceiling — we treat battery safety as an engineering discipline that starts in product development, not a certificate that hangs on a wall.

02 · From battery to motorcycle: UL 2272 whole-vehicle certification

A safe battery inside an unsafe vehicle is not a safe product. That's why K2 and K5 went through system-level evaluation to ANSI/CAN/UL 2272:2026 — the standard for electrical systems in personal e-mobility devices, assessed by SGS North America. Across the broader micro-mobility market, third-party certification has shifted from "nice to have" toward a de facto benchmark: New York City's Local Law 39 has required UL-certified devices and batteries since September 2023, the CPSC has repeatedly urged the industry to comply with UL standards, and federal legislation (H.R. 973) would make UL standards mandatory nationwide. We hold ourselves to that same independently verified bar — not a self-declared one.

What UL 2272 Certification Means for an Electric Dirt Motorcycle (And Why It Matters in the U.S.)

What UL 2272 actually tests, how NYC Local Law 39 and the CPSC changed the market, and how to verify any brand's claim.

03 · Beyond the factory gate: insurance and accountability

Certification proves a product met the standard on test day. Insurance is what stands behind the product every day after that. Our manufacturing entity carries commercial general liability coverage across worldwide jurisdictions including the U.S. and Canada, with limits of $1,000,000 per occurrence and $1,500,000 aggregate — because responsibility shouldn't end when the box is opened.

04 · Protecting the original design

Safety determines how solidly a product stands; continuous R&D and original design determine how far a brand can go. Certification proves the standard. Patents protect the innovation. What connects them is sustained product investment.

"True freedom to explore comes from taking every fundamental part of the product seriously."

Riding legally & safely in the U.S.

Xiarider motorcycles are off-road electric motorcycles, not classified as electric bicycles under U.S. state vehicle codes, and are designed for off-road use on private property and designated OHV areas. Depending on your state, registration and a license may be required for certain uses. Riders should follow local OHV rules, respect the published age guidance (our motorcycles are built for teens and adults), and always wear DOT-certified protective gear.
